The development which was designed by Hackland + Dore Architects contains 298 flats of 2 and 3 bedrooms and 7000 square feet of commercial retail space at ground floor level. The flats are contained in three finger blocks which vary in height from 5 to 9 storeys and which are orientated to give all properties a view of the Leith docks and the Firth of Forth.

The 3.9 acre site is adjacent to the Britannia visitor centre and the Ocean Terminal shopping centre. The Britannia Quay development will be a gateway to the docks and the buildings address both the Georgian tenements of Lindsay Road and the modern developments to the north. A new public square will be formed at the corners of North Junction Street and Lindsay Road and extensive landscaping will cover the underground car parking for the flats.
