A+DS at the Lighthouse 25 Apr - 20 May 2012
Location: Gallery 2
"Explore examples of context driven school design in Scotland in this short exhibition. The Family Of Schools exhibition looks at how related school designs can respond to their environment and surroundings, while a section of the exhibition looks specifically at creating new ideas in old buildings through innovative uses of interior design where the key stakeholders, the students, take centre stage in creating their spaces at James Gillespie‚s in Edinburgh and Campbeltown Grammar. The exhibition also highlights some of the core design qualities we aspire to in all Scottish schools captured in drawings by Professor Alan Dunlop."

ABERDEEN AE Foundation Lecture 17 May 17:00-18:30
CITY | Lecture 5 | 2011-12 Series
Pier Vittorio Aureli, Theorist and Architect with Penny Lewis, Academic and Journalist
The Scott Sutherland School, Aberdeen
Free entry
Sponsored by the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment
The contribution of architecture to the contemporary city is unclear. Even the master plan is contentious. In education we debate whether it is possible to set out grand visions or more appropriate to suggest the possibility of small scale incremental change. In practice the architect has been encouraged to understand his or her role as the ‘repairer’ of cities following the ‘disruption’ of modernisation and de-industrialisation. Is it possible to re-imagine architecture outside of these formal and cultural conventions? In discussion with Penny Lewis, Aureli will explore the relationship between architecture and the city.

EDINBURGH : 2012 Masterclasses
Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies, The University of Edinburgh
1st masterclass was on 19 Jan
The 35th session of the annual series of Architectural Conservation Masterclasses by leading national and international figures at the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies within Edinburgh College of Art, which now forms part of the University of Edinburgh.
Taking place in the transition period immediately following the ECA-UoE merger, the format of this year's Thursday evening Masterclass series will differ in some details from the previous arrangements. The series venue will be moved to a new and more convenient location within Edinburgh College of Art - the Main Lecture Theatre at the top of the principal staircase from the main entrance portico. In response to audience feedback the refreshment formula will be adjusted, with wine and nibbles replacing tea/coffee and sandwiches. Although the ECA-UoE merger has this year necessitated a slightly later start to preparations for the series, we will be mounting a full schedule of ten Masterclasses as usual: speakers and titles are listed in the schedule attached.
This year's contributors are acknowledged experts in their areas from the United Kingdom, France, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. Each of these evening sessions will address a subject of major national or international significance within architectural conservation or cultural landscape heritage.
In reflection of the later start of semesters within the University of Edinburgh, the first Masterclass took place on 19 Jan 2012. The Thursday Masterclasses begin at 5.30pm, continue after refreshments at 6.45-7.15pm and finish by 8.15pm. There will be time for questions and debate at the end of each session. Light refreshments (wine and nibbles) will be provided in the interval.
The series is recognised for purposes of Continuing Professional Development.
