Saughton Park and Gardens in Edinburgh

The HLF has awarded the Council £3.8 m to restore and improve Saughton Park in Southwest Edinburgh, Scotland.

A strong and community focussed master plan reflects the aspirations of local people and park visitors. The hard work has now started to deliver these plans over the next five years.

Saughton Park and Gardens

This green urban space is a hidden gem in the south west of Edinburgh. There are plans are underway to restore and improve this historically important park.

In 2013, the Council received a 1st round development grant of £392,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Parks for People grant programme. This funding is being used to put together fully costed master plan proposals for the park, which will be used to support the Council’s 2nd round bid for the funding to carry out the works themselves.

We have been appointed in collaboration with Richard Shorter to help develop the designs. The council are keen to support the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society (the Caley) and we are exploring how the park can be used as a base for their administration, alongside communities group Friends of Saughton Park, Jura Consultants and Community First Partnership, each developing complementary plans for increasing visitor numbers and new learning opportunities within the park.
