Leading property developer, Cuckfield Group, today (6 April 2001) announced the completed sale of Whisky Bond, Leith, Edinburgh to Great Park Estates Ltd and Persimmon City Developments. The residential developer purchased the eight-storey building for the sum of £3,150,000.

Located on Anderson Place, Leith, Whisky Bond has detailed planning consent for 95 apartments, secure underground parking and 15,000 sq ft of retail or restaurant space. The building forms part of Cuckfield Group’s umbrella regeneration development named Bonnington Bond which, in addition to Whisky Bond, also includes Sugar Bond House and Anderson House, comprising 23,000 sq ft and 24,000 sq ft of grade A, premium office space respectively.

Formerly a whisky warehouse, Whisky Bond will retain the building’s original façade and have a completely new interior with a landscaped courtyard for residents. Penthouses on the top floor will have commanding views across the city and over the Firth of Forth into Fife. Neighbouring Sugar Bond House involves the sympathetic refurbishment of an existing sugar warehouse, while Anderson House will be a completely new building.

Construction on all three buildings – Whisky Bond, Sugar Bond House and Anderson House – will begin in June, with completion expected in September 2002. Commenting on the sale, Ronald Persuad, Cuckfield Group chief executive said: “The completion of this deal will bring some of the highest quality housing to central Edinburgh. We are pleased to have secured a residential construction partner of the calibre of Persimmon City Developments and I am confident the Persimmon brand and its reputation for quality will complement the existing buildings within Bonnington Bond and make Whisky Bond an extremely popular address.”

Steve Watts, Persimmon City Developments chief executive, said: “We are thrilled to have purchased this key site in one of the most sought after areas of Edinburgh. Located only a few minutes from Princes Street and the new commercial hub of the Leith shore, Whisky Bond’s pivotal location and its proximity to such a wealth of leisure facilities is sure to make it attractive to new buyers across the capital.”
