This architectural event put on by the EAA was held at the Apex Hotel in the Grassmarket, in the Old Town.

Apex Hotels

Apex Hotels Ltd is an operator of three star and four star hotels, owned by former accountant Norman Springford and his family. Based in Edinburgh, the company operates ten hotels in the United Kingdom.

Executive Chairman of Apex Hotels, Norman Springford, was previously an employee of the Inland Revenue and owner/operator of a number of public houses, bingo halls, and the Edinburgh Playhouse. In 1996 Norman opened his first hotel, the Apex International Hotel, in Edinburgh. The group now own nine UK hotels (at the time of writing) across London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.

In recent years, Apex Hotels re-opened the historic Waterloo Hotel on Edinburgh’s Waterloo Place in March 2009. The Edinburgh Grassmarket hotel is used as a venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, managed by Sweet Venues.

This is part of a regeneration project in the new Fountainbridge district, the 262-room Moxy Hotel from Marriott International is situated on the former Scottish & Newcastle Fountain Brewery site, alongside offices, cafés, co-working spaces and a restaurant.
