Information from Llewelyn-Davies
Waterfront, Granton
Llewelyn-Davies was commissioned in 1999 to draw up a Master Plan for Waterfront Granton to serve as planning guidance for the future development of this magnificent waterfront. The City Council adopted the plan in January 2001 as the development framework for the waterfront. The Master Plan provides a bold vision to open up Edinburgh’s Waterfront and transport it into a destination and place in its own right while relating to the surrounding communities and aiding their regeneration. Extensive consultation has taken place with local community groups, stakeholders and the general public in evolving the proposals.
The Granton Master Plan is designed to:
Deliver a comprehensive and viable regeneration plan which will help reinforce Edinburgh’s role as a major International City – a Waterfront City;
Propose enough new development to support a high-quality, higher density living and working environment which can help to make Waterfront Granton buzz and come to life; and ensure that the redevelopment of Waterfront Granton is fully integrated -socially as well as physically – with the neighbouring communities of North Edinburgh and that it will contribute to their regeneration.
The Edinburgh Waterfront Master Plan provides a basis for the development of:
5,000 – 6,500 new homes, with at least 1,000 affordable properties for rent and sale;
Up to 340,000m2 of business space in a wide variety of forms;
20,000 – 27,000 m2 of general industrial floorspace;
Potential sites for university or college campuses; and
A wide range of ancillary community, cultural, retail, leisure and entertainment uses.
