The Burrell Company – Liberton Housing Development, Edinburgh: Building PR

A £2m contemporary ecologically-friendly residential project is set to rejuvenate the Liberton area of Edinburgh.

The development, by regeneration specialist The Burrell Company, has received top marks for energy efficiency under The National Home Energy Rating Scheme (NHER), a Government recognised system which measures the energy efficiency of homes.

Clad in western red cedar, and situated on the original site of Caledon House, the project will feature 14 luxury apartments, including two impressive penthouses.

Andrew Burrell, architect and managing director of The Burrell Company, said: “This development provided us with a fantastic opportunity to develop in an area of Edinburgh which is in need of an injection of high quality new properties to complement the stone mansions of the last century.”

“The development has been designed to meet our consistently high standards and offer optimum energy efficiency.”
With a Scandinavian appearance, the development features generously proportioned two bedroom apartments which are accessed by two light stairwells and also comprise a living room, fitted kitchen, bathroom and entrance hall.

The penthouses also feature a dining room, sunroom and large terraced balcony which is accessed through large glazed doors from the sunroom. The upper apartments in particular command splendid views through the tree-lined gardens towards Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat.

Approached down a tree-lined driveway from Kirk Brae and situated only 10 minutes drive from the centre of Edinburgh, the properties will be much sought after by those looking for innovative developments in the older suburbs, south of the capital. Each apartment will have a car parking space, whilst Kirk Brae is major bus route.

The Burrell Company, who were also behind the phenomenally successful developments at 56 Belford Road and No1 Parliament Square, recently lifted the Britannia Apartment of the Year Award for their Coalhill Development in Leith.

Andrew concluded: ‘We take pride in developing innovative and contemporary buildings which set the level for new design and build standards in the UK. Our developments have enabled us to establish a position on the urban renaissance map ahead of some of the best architectural, design and build talent in the UK.’

Prices for the luxury apartments in Caledon House start from £100,000. Work will commence in May, with the first show flat expected to be unveiled towards the end of 2002.
