Shipping Container Development
Containersville – News Jan 2008
Forth Ports so-called eco-town built from shipping containers proposed for Leith Docks. Up to 300 live / work units located in 2 out of 9 ‘villages’. Charles Hammond, Forth Ports chief executive, was inspired by a visit to Container City in East London, home to 37 units.
Containers would be cut out on one side and welded to another to allow for two-room units, with an office and living quarters. Envisaged as temporary bases for the ‘creative industries’ they might become permanent.
