Queensferry studio
This studio occupies a high terrace within the rig gardens of the ancient burgh town of South Queensferry. The form of the building echoes the long dividing rig walls with outrigger white-washed flanking walls which provide support for the main structures and privacy from neighbours. Slabs of sedum-covered and zinc-covered roofs mimic the terraced gardens, whilst peeling up to allow light in through clerestorey glazing.
The building provides guest accommodation for the town house at the bottom of the slope as well as giving a domestic foothold at the top of the garden where the views are spectacular. A main living/studio space and small kitchen occupy the principal volume with a shower room and bunk room tucked into the hillside around them. A large balcony looks over the garden and beyond to the Forth Bridges and Ochils. A series of bike and garden stores are tucked under the building.
